WATCH OUR ZOOTOO VIDEO!

We gathered on a beautiful day in Kellogg Park to welcome the Zootoo shelter makeover crew to Michigan. Richard Thompson leapt from the Zootoo-mobile with arms raised, and the crowd cheered! We wore our ears! We waved signs!  We shouted WOO HOOO!

Watch our ZOOTOO VIDEO, read Richard Thompson's JOURNAL ENTRY about his visit with the people and bunnies at Midwest Rabbit Rescue and  check out our SLIDESHOW.

MIDWEST'S  ZOOTOO JOURNEY

We are ranked 6 in Zootoo's million-dollar shelter makeover contest!  Midwest's dramatic 11th hour recovery is a stunning feat.  We have many, many bunny friends from across the nation to thank.  You all have rallied behind us, and we are so grateful for your support.  Thank you!

A few days before the contest ended, we dropped out of the top 20, to #21.  Thanks to a spirited campaigned by our steadfast supporters, we gained close to 900 new members over the final weekend, enough to catapult us to #6.  We're amazed and incredibly pleased at our remarkable comeback!

We are the ONLY rescue specifically for rabbits competing for the million dollar makeover. Though rabbits are the 3rd most surrendered animal to shelters, they are proportionally underserved, with cats and dogs receiving the lion's share of support in the rescue community. We want to win, of course to help the bunnies at our little rescue, but also to draw broader attention to the why's and wherefore's of rabbit overpopulation and homelessness, and to bring much needed attention to rabbits, resulting in better vet care, more adoptions, and a greater understanding of the unique needs of rabbits.  Winning this contest would be a victory for rabbits everywhere!

On April 24th, the Zootoo House Advisory Board, which includes Richard Thompson, Zootoo founder and former CEO of Meow Mix, and a representative from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS),  will visit our rescue to evaluate our needs. After visiting each of the top 20 shelters, they will choose the first place, million dollar makeover winner. The second place winner will receive $10,000, and the remaining 18 winners will receive $5,000 each.

The 20 finalists will be presented at HSUS's Animal Care Expo in Orlando, FL on May 15, 2008, and the grand prize winner will be announced on national television shortly thereafter. Wish the bunnies luck!

To rescue domesticated rabbits by working cooperatively with individuals, shelters, pet stores, veterinarians, local governments, and other animal rescue organizations.

To adopt the rabbits into loving and permanent homes; to facilitate successful adoptions by providing follow-up visits, information and advice to new adopters.

To ensure that each rescued rabbit is spayed or neutered, health permitting; to provide vet care to injured, ill, or elderly rabbits; to provide quality lifelong care and hospice to un-adopted rabbits.

To address the root causes of rabbit overpopulation and homelessness by educating the public regarding rabbit care, health, behavior, the benefits of spaying and neutering, and the benefits of adopting homeless animals.
