GIRL SCOUTS
We love meeting with the Girl Scouts! We talk about the rabbits, and our rescue, and encourage the girls to visit our facility with their parents to meet the bunnies in person. Each troop works on a different badge, depending on the age group (Daisies, Brownies, Junior Scouts, and Studio 2B). One troop donated the proceeds from their cookie sales to the bunnies. Another troop made and decorated hay bins made from empty plastic milk jugs for each bunny. Thank you, Girl Scouts! The bunnies love you!
VIETNAM VETS OF AMERICA-CHAPTER 528
Many thanks to the local chapter 528 of the Vietnam Veterans of America for inviting us to speak to their members about our rescue! We had a great time meeting the veterans, raising awareness about our rabbits, and making new friends. We invite the veterans of chapter 528 to see for yourselves what we're all about at our weekend open houses, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 pm!
THE PLYMOUTH FARMERS MARKET
Volunteers
woke at
the crack of dawn every Saturday morning last fall to talk bunny rescue
with hundreds of people at the Plymouth
Farmer's Market. We gave away compost, painted faces,
and made connections in our community! This is a great
opportunity to make our presence known, get new people involved, spread
the word about our rescued rabbits. Look for our booth on Saturday mornings from May to October, 2008!
SCARECROWS IN THE PARK
Midwest's Bunny Scarecrow was raising awareness about our rescue in
Plymouth's Kellog Park from October 7 to November 7th, 2007.
We hope you got to meet her!In the photo at right, she is sporting a Midwest Rabbit Rescue t-shirt with our awesome new logo, available at: www.cafepress.com/rabbitrr
BRIGHTON MONTESSORI ADOPTS MIDWEST!
Brighton
Montessori teacher and Midwest volunteer Sarah A.
writes, "As you know, Cherokee has often escorted me to the school
where I teach and as a result, all of the teachers, children and
parents have fallen head over heels in love with him. He has taught
them many things but the most important is the lesson of love, respect
and compassion for even the tiniest of creatures that share this earth
with us. I teach at a Montessori school and one of the biggest
components of the Montessori Philosophy is teaching children the
importance of empathy and compassion when dealing with animals, nature
and other human beings.
This year it happens to be our 20th anniversary
and to help us celebrate our special year, all of the teachers have
decided to make it a year of peace. We are having a peace pole
dedication at the beginning of the year and for every month during the
school year we have chosen to adopt a different cause with the
intention of teaching the children compassion, understanding and empathy for those less fortunate and in
need. Well, due to the amount of love that Cherokee gives all
the children, we have decided to adopt Midwest Rabbit Rescue for the
month of January. What this means is that we will talk about
the shelter, display pictures and information about Midwest Rabbit
Rescue, discuss the importance of adopting over buying, and collect
donations from the families for the rescue." Thank you, Cherokee and Brighton Montessori!
