omalleyTHE O'MALLEY FUND
for Special Needs Bunnies

In February 2007 I volunteered at Midwest Rabbit Rescue, and I saw this Dutch bunny by the name of O'Malley. He was the sweetest bunny I had ever seen. When you opened his cage he would come right up to you. He was an absolute doll.

I found out that his front teeth were maloccluded and deformed. He needed to have his top and bottom teeth removed. I fostered him during this time. His teeth were removed and his appetite improved. He could eat shredded carrots (his favorite!), pellets, and chopped-up veggies. O'Malley’s disposition remained great. When he was rechecked in a couple of months, everything was fine. Upon his 6-month recheck we saw that his bottom incisors had grown back, requiring another surgery. The incisors were removed and once again O'Malley was a little trooper. He came through the surgery the way O'Malley always had done. Another visit in a week for a recheck showed a stitch was needed on the bottom of his mouth. That stitch was removed a week later.

omalleydarleenO'Malley did well for about a month. Late one evening an abscess developed on the left side of his jaw. Dr. Marsh at Animal Kingdom drained his abscess and put him on Baytril. He went there for 5 months off and on, and during that time he developed an abscess on the right side of his jaw, which was also drained. He was given Baytril the whole time. Throughout all this, he stayed his happy O'Malley self. In September of 2008 O'Malley's left eye developed an abscess behind it. The eye bulged out, and the cornea ulcerated. I could see O'Malley was losing his fight. On Oct 1, 2008 it was time for O'Malley to be with the angels because they needed him. He was the sweetest little boy. I will never forget the fight and love O'Malley had in him.

Donate to the O'Malley Fund for Special Needs Bunnies!

I would like to thank everybody at Midwest Rabbit Rescue for caring about O'Malley, especially Carrie. I’d also like to thank Dr. Marsh at Animal Kingdom. This fund is set up so that other bunnies with special needs have a chance at a good, happy and healthy life.

AGAINST THE ODDS:
A BUNNY FINDS HEALING
tiramisu
Read Tira Misu's story, "Against the Odds: A Bunny Finds Healing," send him "Get-Well-Wishes," and donate toward his medical expenses!
Update: Tira Misu's jaw has completely healed. There is no sign of abscess, he is eating normally and is back up to a good weight, and his teeth have re-aligned themselves. Tira Misu is proof that a jaw abscess is not a death sentence for a bunny! He has survived and thrived through major abscesses on both sides of his head. Long live Tira Misu! Long live bunnies!
